Young Patriots fan fighting leukemia gets Christmas gift of her dreams
PORTLAND, Maine - A young Patriots fan fighting leukemia got a special Christmas present from none other than star quarterback Tom Brady.
According to WCSH-TV in Portland, 8-year-old Hailey Steward, from Bethel, has been fighting leukemia since she was first diagnosed at age 5. She's a huge Brady fan. She decorated her room at Maine Medical Center with a Brady "Elf on the Shelf," a cutout photo of the star quarterback's head and at least two No. 12 blankets.
Brady learned about Hailey when he read a story in the Portland Press Herald on Christmas Day and sent her a video message, wishing her a Merry Christmas and inviting her to come to Foxborough to meet on Saturday.
"I was hoping you'd be willing to come down here this Saturday before we leave for New York and I'd get a chance to meet you," Brady said. "So maybe you can ask your mom and dad if that's what you want for Christmas."
Hailey arrived for the meet and greet sporting her Brady jersey. She even got a hug from the 4-time Super Bowl champion quarterback.
Her family was overjoyed about the unexpected Christmas gift.
"As a Dad this was truly one of the most amazing days of my life to see my girl get her wish. My little Hailey is so strong and to see someone like Tom Brady recognize her strength and determination to beat this again is awesome. I want to thank everyone out there that helped make this happen and I mean everyone who shared , posted, tagged or whatever it took. I can also say Tom Brady is an amazing man and to reach out to us and meet us today was way more than we expected. He is a true Patriot and all patriot fans should be proud. I know I will forever be," Hailey's father posted on Facebook.
