Young hunters get first shot at New Hampshire turkeys

CONCORD (AP) — Young hunters in New Hampshire are getting an early start on turkey season.
The state's 11th annual youth turkey hunt weekend takes place Saturday and Sunday, allowing children 15 years or younger to hunt without a license as long as they are accompanied by licensed adults. Turkey hunting permits typically are required for both children and adults.
Last year, young hunters took 446 turkeys, about 11 percent of the total spring turkey harvest. The regular season for adults starts next weekend.
