YMCA bans cable news stations after political fights break out
SCRANTON, PA. — A YMCA has banned multiple news networks from its television screens due to a series of near-fights over politics.
According to The Washington Post, the gym banished CNN, Fox News and MSNBC from it's television screens because of political debates prompted by news coverage on the networks bringing exercisers to near-fights.
The gym's chief executive, Trish Fisher, told reporters that the gym has had many members step forward saying they've felt uncomfortable about some arguments that were going on over politics. One argument, Fisher said, almost resulted in a physical altercation.
Fisher said the decision to turn off the cable news stations came on Monday after board members acknowledged the problem in a meeting on Thursday.
He also went on to say that things have cooled down a bit since removing the channels, with many members being pleased with the decision.
