Year-long public parking in Portsmouth's Market Square offered for $1

PORTSMOUTH – If you have ever wanted to pull your hair out of your head as you round Market Square for the third time trying to find a parking spot, you may find yourself a new fan of the Piscataqua Savings Bank.

According to Seacoast Online, Piscataqua Savings Bank is offering 19 prime parking spaces to the public for just $1 for a whole year.

The bank’s president and CEO, Rick Wallis, said the bank has always wanted to leave the lot open to the public and a licensing agreement has made it possible.

The spaces will be available for use by the public during evenings, weekends and federal holidays.

The bank’s president and CEO said in the past people have parked poorly in the lot after hours, therefore blocking the bank’s ATM.

Wallis said some downtown businesses have discussed keeping the lots closed to the public, but the bank decided to enter the municipal agreement.

Hours the parking lot will be open to the public

Mondays through Thursdays: 5 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Fridays: 6 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Saturdays: 12:30 p.m. until 6 a.m.

Sundays: 6 a.m. until 6 a.m. the following mornings.

Federal holidays will have the same hours as Sundays.
