TORONTO (AP) Injured Yankees ace Masahiro Tanaka is being sent back to New York because of general soreness in his right arm.
Tanaka said before Friday night's game in Toronto that he wanted to be cautious. He hasn't pitched in a game since July 8 as he recovers from a partial tear in his elbow.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said it would be "maybe a week" before Tanaka throws his next bullpen session.
The Japanese star is 12-4 with a 2.51 ERA in his first season in the majors.
