Wrong-way driver on I-93 in Concord boxed in by police car and reported caller

CONCORD - State police responded to a wrong-way driver traveling southbound on Interstate 93 at about 2:30 a.m. on Friday.

Christopher Martineau encountered the wrong-way near mile 46 and was able to slow the car down and get it to come to a stop in the passing lane. Police helped box in the vehicle so that the wrong-way driver couldn't keep driving.

Michael Drake, 34, of Meredith, was driving a blue 2010 Toyota Camry when he began traveling southbound in the northbound lane, according to police. Drake almost created a head-on collision before he was reported.

Drake was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated, his second offense, and reckless conduct, and open container. The results of his breath test indicated he was twice the legal limit.

He was released on $8,000 PR bail pending a court arraignment in the Concord District Court on Nov. 4, 2016.

Anyone who witnessed or may information regarding this incident is urged to contact Trooper Martineau by email at or by calling 603-223-8626.
