Wood stove behind fire that engulfed Unity home

The Associated Press

UNITY - Fire officials say an initial investigation into a blaze that destroyed a home in Unity, Tuesday afternoon, found that a wood stove was likely to blame for the cause.

Fire Chief Bruce Baker says that the walls surrounding the wood stove caught fire, spreading flames throughout the single-family Sawyer Brook Road home on Monday. The fire was first reported around 4:20 p.m.

It took nearly two hours to extinguish the blaze after firefighters found the house fully engulfed on arrival. Crews from roughly two dozen fire departments assisted.

Baker deemed the home a total loss. No injuries were reported.

The investigation is ongoing.
