Woman who hit 3 pedestrians with car in Rochester gets no jail time
ROCHESTER — A woman who hit three pedestrians near Hi-Vu Motor Inn this February pleaded guilty to two class A misdemeanors Tuesday morning.
Dawn Sandler, of South Berwick, Maine, fled from the scene and then turned herself in at the Rochester Police Department 2½ hours later.
One of the women who was seriously injured, Amanda Demers, told the judge she can no longer work and suffers from hand paralysis. Demers said she has undergone a number of operations in the past four months.
Judge Steven Houran accepted a fully negotiated plea deal presented by the prosecution and defense. Sandler will serve no jail time, but has a 12-month suspended sentence hanging over her head.
She also will have to perform community service and take driving classes.
