Woman smears own menstrual blood, dirty toilet water on walls of NH holding cell

SALEM — What started out as a theft and drug bust turned into much more when a 30-year-old woman smeared her own menstrual blood and dirty toilet water onto the walls of her holding cell.

Keke Vencill - Anchor for NH1 NewsSalem Police responded to the Kohl's Department Store on Cluff Crossing Road for the report of a woman, identified as Tura Purnell, 30 of North Redding, Mass., that had cut the security tags off two pairs of jeans and placed them in her purse at about 4:27 p.m.. The bag was then allegedly picked up by her companion, who was identified as Erich Ehlert, 49, of Wakefield Mass., and the left the store and got into a van that was parked outside.

When police arrived, they say they saw the van speeding away from the parking lot. Officers were able to stop the van down the road and took the Purnell and Ehlert into custody.

While in the holding cell, Purnell allegedly smeared her own blood along the walls of the cell. She then used an article of clothing to splash dirty toilet water through the cell block area, but police said they weren't sure of the contents of the toilet water.

This caused that area of the cell block to be evacuated and closed until the area could be decontaminated. The area was off limits for several hours.

Purnell was transported to Parkland Medical Center for treatment and then to the Rockingham County Jail where she was held overnight. She was scheduled to be arraigned on Friday. She was charged with willful concealment - theft, felony level, two counts possession of a controlled drug, criminal mischief, and unlawful activity - which was described as litter control.

The value of the stolen and damaged property is approximately $100.00.

Ehlert was charged with willful concealment - theft, and driving after suspension. He was released on $2,000 PR bail and will be arraigned on Jan. 9, 2017.
