Woman injured in single-sled snowmobile crash

The Associated Press

LITTLETON - A Massachusetts woman was seriously injured after losing control of her snowmobile on a trail.

New Hampshire Fish and Game officials said 63-year-old Mary Carter of Methuen, Mass., lost control of her snowmobile while navigating a turn on a steep portion of Primary Trail 104 on Saturday morning.

Officials said Carter headed down a steep hill while accidentally holding the throttle. They said she crossed a paved road, became airborne after going over a snowbank and was thrown from her snow machine after hitting a wooden beam.

Authorities said Carter - an experienced rider who was wearing a helmet - suffered serious injuries.

Officials said drugs and alcohol were not factors, but it's likely operator inattention contributed to the crash.
