Woman faces reckless operation, drug possession charges after crashing her car into a tree
BELMONT — A woman is facing drug possession and reckless operation charges after she crashed her car into a tree in Belmont at about 8 a.m. Monday morning.
Katie Nelson, 24, of Franklin, was reported by a witness as having crossed into the oncoming lane on Brown Hill Road before going off the road and into a tree. Police said she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, but only sustained minor injuries. Nelson was then charged with reckless operation.
Police later obtained a search warrant for her car since they suspected drugs were inside. After conducting a search of Nelson's car, police filed additional charges, including possession of narcotics - a felony - and alcohol interlock circumvention. Officers said Nelson is not allowed to drive a car without such a device.
