MANCHESTER — A woman was arrested after stealing two cans of Twisted Tea from a store on Hanover Street, then throwing one at a police officer, officials said.
Kristie Chapman, 43 of Manchester, was reported by the store clerk at Cumberland Farms at about 3 a.m. for attempting to steal the Twisted Teas.
An officer reported to the scene and found Chapman on Union Street and Manchester Street based on the description the clerk gave. The officer attempted to stop the suspect, but she refused. Chapman began concealing items inside of her coat before running away from the officer.
When the officer caught up to Chapman and took hold of her arm. However, Chapman turned toward the officer and threw a full can of Twisted Tea at the officer, according to police. The can struck the officer in the face prior to him wrestling the woman to the ground. The officer gained control of the situation and was able to place Chapman under arrest. Chapman continued to act "combative and hostile," according to police.
Chapman was charged with theft by unauthorized taking, which was upgraded to a felony due to three previous theft charges, two counts simple assault, and resisting arrest/detention. She is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Nov. 23 in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester.
