NEW YORK (AP) Could Pharrell have another phenomenal and happy year at the Grammys?
The producer-rapper-singer could be nominated for a number of Grammys on Friday, when The Recording Academy announces the nominees for its 57th annual awards. Pharrell had an epic year, thanks to his Oscar-nominated hit, "Happy," and his album, "G I R L," as well as producing songs on albums from Beyonce and Ed Sheeran, which could earn the hitmaker additional nominations. "Happy" was released before Grammy eligibility, but Pharrell submitted a live version of the song.
Pharrell, 41, won four Grammys earlier this year, including non-classical producer of the year and album of the year for his work on Daft Punk's "Random Access Memories."
Four categories will be announced on CBS at 8:30 a.m. Other nominees will be announced on Twitter throughout the day. The top award, album of the year, will be announced when the TV special "A Very GRAMMY Christmas" airs at 9 p.m. on CBS.
Along with Pharrell, Beyonce and Sam Smith have a chance at winning Grammy gold. Smith, a British newcomer whose hits include "Stay With Me" and "I'm Not the Only One," said in an interview Thursday night that he was nervous about the nominations.
"I'm scared. It's like Christmas Eve right now for me," Smith said. "I'd love my album to get that platform so I don't know. Fingers crossed."
Smith's debut, "In the Lonely Hour," is one of the year's top-selling albums. Other big efforts this year include the "Frozen" soundtrack, Beyonce's self-titled fifth album, Coldplay's "Ghost Stories" and Sheeran's "x," the most streamed album on Spotify this year.
The Grammy Awards will air live Feb. 8 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles. "A Very GRAMMY Christmas," a taped special, will feature performances from Pharrell, Smith, Ariana Grande, Maroon 5 and more.
