Why is today special to Patriots fans?
Today, the sun is shining and New Englanders are starting to see spring right around the corner. With that, comes not only cookouts and beach days, but baseball games and the NFL Draft.
With the draft just 12 days away, many are thinking about past draft picks. First round picks who ended up being a bust, or later picks who proved everyone wrong.
On this day, 16 years ago, in the sixth round with the 199th overall pick the New England Patriots selected Tom Brady of Michigan.
Ironically enough, April 16 isn't only the day Brady was drafted, but it's the birthday of his mentor, coach and friend, Bill Belichick.
The Patriots may not have a first round pick this year, but they have already been making headlines this offseason signing big names like WR Chris Hogan, DE Chris Long and TE Clay Harper as well as extensions to RB LeGarette Blount and QB Tom Brady.
With the trading of DE Chandler Jones, they also gained a second round draft pick.
