Who stole MacGregor? NH couple begging for return of neighborhood mascot

NEW CASTLE - For years, a Newfoundland dog statue has been a mainstay at the home of a New Castle couple.

But now the neighborhood mascot has gone missing, and Jeff and Barbara Hughes have a sign on their porch asking for it back.

The stone pooch has guarded the neighborhood for years - and it happens to look a lot like the couple's dog, Oscar.

The statue was stolen in the middle of the day last month.

"Until I saw the sign - I mean its just a kind of thing," said neighbor Sue Chase. "You go by it and it’s there, and it’s always dressed for the weather. You know, 'Isn't that cute?' and its part of their love for this particular breed of animal.”

The Hugheses are offering a reward for the return of Macgregor.
