Whitehall Road in Rochester closed Sunday after driver snaps utility pole

ROCHESTER - Whitehall Road was closed between Chamberlain Street and Salmon Falls Road after a car hit and broke a utility pole around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Police say they don't expect the road to reopen until late Sunday as utility companies work to replace the pole and wires.

The accident involved a 2004 Honda Accord driven by Timothy M Yeaton, 17, of Berwick, Maine. Police say he was traveling east on Whitehall Road when he veered off the road, striking the utility pole and snapping it at the base.

Yeaton was taken to Frisbie Memorial Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured and no other vehicles were involved.

Police say the accident remains under investigation.
