What to expect at MHT, Boston's Logan Airport after increased travel alert this Thanksgiving

MANCHESTER - The United States has issued a worldwide travel alert for Americans following the Paris terror attacks.

The alert does not ask Americans to avoid travel, but urges them to be vigilant especially in public places or using mass transit.

The busiest travel time of the year upon us, and staff at Manchester-Boston Regional airport are advising that if you’re traveling Tuesday night arrive 90 minutes prior to your flight.

Starting Wednesday, if you hope to get through the lines in time, they suggest arriving two hours before your flight.

But before you get to the airport, the clock is already ticking. Many take shuttles to the airport in Manchester or down to Boston to catch flights out of Boston-Logan International Airport.

Give yourself extra time just to get the airport, because busing companies tell NH1 News they are taking travel more serious than ever before, too.

“It wasn’t bad today, but I can only imagine tomorrow,” said Kimberly Walters, who flew into Manchester early Tuesday morning.

Unfortunately that was not the attitude of some passengers as the afternoon dragged on, as well as the security lines.

“That is the hardest part now a days," Walters said. "It really takes longer than anything. It’s always such a relief to be done with the TSA.”

There aren’t any new measures in the line itself. Security is still operating at a heightened level at Manchester-Boston regional.

Following procedures as usual, travelers are expected to put their belongings in bins, there are K9’s on call, and full body screenings for everyone who hopes to get on a flight.

But do passengers feel more nervous with the issue of a new travel threat?

“We were going to Manchester," Walter said. "If we were going to London or to France or Brussels, Belgium - then yeah that might have been a lot scarier."

“It definitely is a little nerve-wracking so I try to stay in contact with the people I’m traveling to as much as possible and be as cautious as possible,” said Samantha Burch, who was heading to see family in Florida.

One couple told NH1 News that they were almost unable to see one another for the holiday.

One of their mother’s was scared for her child’s safety.

“[My mom] almost, kind of, changed her mind a little bit and might not have let me visit,” said Shannon Boe attempting to surprise her boyfriend in New Hampshire.

Those flying Wednesday through Sunday from Manchester are being asked to arrive those two hours before their flight, but if you’re flying out of Logan in Boston, experts are recommending anywhere from a two to three hour arrival time before your flight.
