West Lebanon business suffers smoke and water damage in overnight fire

LEBANON - A sprinkler system in a Main Street business put out an early morning fire in West Lebanon but left the building with smoke and water damage.

Firefighters say a passerby alerted the department that the sprinkler system was operating in the building that held Defelice Furniture early Sunday morning.

When firefighters arrived, they forced entry to investigate and found evidence of a fire in the area of a desk on the showroom floor. Four sprinkler heads had activated and put out the fire.

However, the sprinkler system was not connected to a monitored fire alarm system. Firefighters say the lack of early notification was a contributing factor to the estimated $75,000 to $80,000 in smoke and water damages to the building and contents. The fire is not considered suspicious but remains under investigation by the Lebanon Fire Department Fire Prevention Division.
