No. 3: What's That Object in the Sky? NH's Rich History with UFOs
NH1'S TOP STORIES OF 2017: No. 3, UFOs
New Hampshire has a rich history of UFO encounters, with the most well-known case being the possible sightings in Exeter 1965. Two police officers and another man reported seeing an object with red lights floating in the air. Mullahy said both officers were ex-military and had experience with conventional aircrafts.
Several years before that in 1961 a Portsmouth couple, Barney and Betty Hill, reported being abducted by aliens in Lincoln. Both incidents were reported to Pease Air Force Base.
In 2017, several events put New Hampshire back in the spotlight.
In June, a weird floating light in Merrimack had people questioning what they saw.
The common answer said it appeared to be some sort of refraction of light from the sun interacting with the clouds.
However, UFO Stalker called it sighting number 84622. According to their site, New Hampshire has had 500 other UFO sightings, including one other in Merrimack.
Another possible sighting in Dover happened in November.
Two videos posted to a UFO website displayed a strange object in the sky, leaving witnesses bewildered. Shot in Dover, the object appears to be a thin black line with slightly curved edges.
The first video was taken by a man who said he spotted the object around 9:52 a.m. Nov. 28.
In December, New Hampshire's UFO connections once again made national news when a former Navy pilot from Windham said he had encountered a strange object in the sky.
His interview was part of a larger story on the Pentagon's program that investigates UFOs.
According to another New York Times article published Dec. 16, the program has been in existence since 2007. Of the $600 billion annual Defense Department budget, $22 million was spent on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program.
Exeter is also the site of an annual UFO festival.
