Weekend celebrates 8th anniversary of Fenway's 'Here Comes the Pizza!'
Eight years ago one of the most historic and hilarious baseball moments occurred in Boston: The Fenway Park Pizza Throw.
On April 16, 2007 the Sox played the Los Angeles Angels. The beginning of the season brought with it passionate and excited Red Sox fans. In the seats, Jason Sole, then 30, had allegedly given fellow fans Matt Madore and Danny Kelly a tough time about bringing a whole pizza into Box 82.
At the bottom of the seventh inning, J.D. Drew sent a foul ball toward left field. Angels' left-fielder Garrett Anderson raced after the ball only to have Sole attempt to catch the fly ball. Before Sole could collect himself, Kelly threw a slice of the pizza at him, hitting his shoudler.
The incident was coined Pizzagate and joked about in NECN broadcasters Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy's commentary.
