EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) New York Giants cornerback Walter Thurmond is going to miss the remainder of the season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered in Sunday's loss to Arizona. The Giants say that the former Seattle Seahawk will have surgery Tuesday.
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) Miami Dolphins running back Knowshon (NOH'-shawn) Moreno is expected to be sidelined for at least a month with a left elbow injury. He was hurt early in Sunday's loss to Buffalo after leading the league in rushing following the season opener. Miami has re-signed Daniel Thomas to shore up the position.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) Veteran linebacker John Abraham is returning to the Arizona Cardinals after considering retirement following a concussion. The 15-year veteran left the team last week after sustaining the concussion in the season-opening win over San Diego.
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) Oklahoma coach running back Keith Ford will miss at least a week after breaking his foot in a win over Tennessee. Ford is the leading rusher for the fourth-ranked Sooners and tops the team with five touchdowns.
MONTREAL (AP) The Montreal Canadiens will play with four alternate captains this season: defensemen Andrei Markov and P.K. Subban and forwards Tomas Plekanec (pleh-KAH'-nehch) and Max Pacioretty (pah-chee-ohr-EH'-tee). Last season's captain, Brian Gionta (JAHN'-tah), signed with the Buffalo Sabres in the offseason. His successor was a subject of intense debate among Montreal fans and media.
