Weare woman charged with embezzling $80,000 from her former employer


LONDONDERRY — A Weare woman accused of forging about $80,000 worth of checks from her employer over the last five years has been charged with embezzlement and forgery.

According to the Union Leader, Theresa Young, 46, worked for Allied Orthotics as business manager for 20 years before she resigned in September.

“Part of her duties was to balance the books and manage the company’s accounts, so when she quit they had to find a replacement,” police Det. Christopher Olsen said. “They then saw a statement with a suspicious check on it.”

Further investigation led to the discovery of 87 forged checks dating back to 2011 and totaling about $80,000, according to Olsen.

Young turned herself in to police last week. She faces 19 charges including theft, embezzlement, forgery and tampering with records.

Young was released on $50,000 personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Derry District Court on March 1.
