Weare Tragedy: Witnesses offer comfort, encouragement to victim in his last moments

WEARE - Lisa Phibbs was at home when she heard a loud bang on Tuesday afternoon. When she looked out the window, she saw it was her old tree that had come down on a black pick-up.

“There was a tree down, and I started to stop traffic and got that going, and she went up to him and tried to talk to him,” Phibbs told NH1 News, referring to another woman who had approached the injured driver.

Phibbs also approached the truck and found the victim. She said the man could barely breathe.

“Me and another woman were saying: come on, you can make it, come on, you got to stay with us,” said Phibbs.

But the victim, whom they identified as male and a firefighter judging by his license plates, did not make it. He was pronounced dead on the scene after first responders arrived.

“My heart, my prayers, my thoughts, kisses and hugs, just everything goes to the family. I don’t know who they are yet but if there is anything i can do please let me know,” Phibbs said.

Police have not identified the victim and say they are reaching out to the family first.
