Weare still trying to address issues regarding police chief position

Editor's Note: A previous version of this article incorrectly stated Begin was the police chief when an officer shot and killed a suspect. Begin retired in May 2013. That incident happened in August 2013.

WEARE - Police chief problems are still not resolved in the town of Weare.

We took a brief look at recent events.

Chief Gregory Begin retired early in 2013.

John Velleca replaced him vowing to turn things around, but Velleca resigned last October after allegations that he assaulted a co-worker.

Interim chief Sean Kelly took over after Valleca, and he could be the permanent pick.

He's generally well liked, and some say he's bringing stability after years of problems - and since he works part-time, he doesn't get benefits at taxpayer expends.

But Kelly also lives in Maine, and in an off-hours emergency, he's at least an hour away.

He uses a police cruiser to commute, and gas prices are on their way up. Residents are also concerned about hours being capped at 32.

What do you think? Is Kelly the answer for Weare?
