Water park closed in NH since 2006 catches fire, deemed 'suspicious'

The Associated Press

LACONIA (AP) — Authorities in New Hampshire are investigating as suspicious a fire that broke out at a Laconia water park that's been closed for 10 years.

Police responded to the former Surf Coaster USA water park around 12:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of a fire in the main office building.

Crews from three cities and towns were able to extinguish the flames quickly. Firefighters say the 30-by-30-foot building is a total loss.

No injuries were reported. It's unclear what sparked the blaze. The fire is considered suspicious since the building is vacant and there was no power connected to it.

The 11-acre park opened in 1983 and closed in 2006.
