HAMPTON - A near riot broke out at the Hampton Beach Pavilion last Wednesday with large crowds breaking into fights, throwing objects at police, and one officer injured.
It all started about 6:30 p.m. when police responded to a fight at the beachfront pavilion. An unruly crowd of about 300 people swarmed a police officer as he used a Taser on Julian Cruz, 18, of Manchester, and arrested him for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. As the arrest was happening, the crowd continued to yell, chant, and approach the officer, before he led Cruz away in handcuffs.
A short time later, police were called back to the scene because several fights had broken out. Officers from State Police and Seabrook Police were brought in to back up Hampton officers. Police said several object were thrown at officers. One Hampton officer was taken to Portsmouth Hospital with minor injuries.
