WATCH: Coast Guard medevacs injured fisherman off coast of Cape Cod

BOSTON - A fisherman had to be medevaced by a Coast Guard helicopter after sustaining injuries onboard a fishing vessel 86 miles off the coast of Cape Cod on Thursday.

The Coast Guard said at about 5 p.m. they received a report from the captain of the 75-foot fishing vessel Destiny that one of his crew members had fallen and sustained injuries to his hand and ribs.

A Coast Guard helicopter responded and arrived around 8 p.m. The crew used a basket to lift the 54-year-old fisherman from the boat to the helicopter.

The fisherman was flown to Air Station Cape Cod where emergency medical services personnel were waiting to transport him to Falmouth Hospital.
