Warner votes to accept $16,000 gift of guns for police department
WARNER — The select board accepted a firearm collection from Sturm, Ruger & Company to the Warner police department on Tuesday evening, the Concord Monitor reported.
Police Chief Bill Chandler said that the department was invited to take a tour of the gun manufacturer's location in Newport for a showcase of their new military and law enforcement weapons.
The company then offered to replace all of the department's weapons free of charge.
The gift is valued at more than $16,000 and includes a dozen 9 mm pistols and three tactical rifles.
The department’s old weapons will be made available for private purchase by officers. Any guns that are not sold back will stay in the department’s possession.
