Warm September delaying New England's fall foliage colors

The Associated Press

MONTPELIER, Vt. — One of the warmest early Septembers on record is delaying the brilliant colors of fall foliage in northern New England that draws droves of visitors.

In the foliage report for Maine, the entire state is still green. The report for Vermont? Also mostly green. For New Hampshire? Some color in the north.

The summer-like temperatures are slowing the cycle when leaves turn from green to breathtaking reds, oranges and yellows.

As the days shorten and leaves lose their green chlorophyll pigment, a dip in temperatures could quickly bring on the spectacular outdoor show. But for now, the forecast still calls for summery days.
