Wanted fugitive found in Portsmouth motel

PORTSMOUTH - Heavy police presence surrounded Motel 6 on Gosling Road in Portsmouth Friday morning after officials were looking for a fugitive.

Michael Polchies, 33, of Somersworth was found at the hotel with his girlfriend, Kristen Temple. Portsmouth Police, New Hampshire State Police and U.S. Federal Marshals surrounded the hotel and found Polchies and Temple in a room locked in a bathroom using a controlled substance. They also found drug paraphernalia, money and drugs in the hotel room with them.

Arthur Tanguay was working inside a building next door and he witnessed the whole thing.
"There were police cars, state troopers and local police all around here looking at the hotel next door," he said.

Polchies was this week's "Fugitive of the Week." He was wanted on an outstanding parole warrant, but his original conviction was possession and sale of drugs.

Ben Bromfield had only spent one night at the motel and was surprised when he took the elevator down to the lobby to find police waiting there.

"You know, you come out and there's...they had their K9 units and just like I said, there was heavy police presence," he said.

Temple was also wanted on a warrant stemming from a drug conviction. Both were arrested and taken to Strafford County Jail, pending their return to the New Hampshire State Prison.
