Volunteer firefighter bikes from Canada to Key West for disabled veterans

SANDOWN — A volunteer firefighter rode his bicycle from the Canadian border of New Hampshire to Key West in Florida to raise funds for Ride2Recovery

Jerry Lachance, 68, of Sandown, left the northern border of New Hampshire on Sept. 3. He arrived in Key West Sept. 30.

Lachance's ride was to raise money for Ride2Recovery, a veterans service that builds adaptive bicycles for disabled veterans.

Lachance stopped along the way at firehouses where he always received a warm welcome.

The original goal of $10,000 was surpassed by $8,500.

The Sandown Fire Department is welcoming Lachance back with a dessert and coffee reception. This will be held at the station Oct. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
