Vietnam veterans get 'Welcome Home' in Hanover

HANOVER - More than 50 people attended the N.H. National Guard's fourth annual "Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans" ceremony Saturday.

Several guest speakers, including Gov. Maggie Hassan, spoke at the event which honors Vietnam veterans who did not receive a proper welcome home when they returned home from war.

"I got shot in the shoulder," said Gil Mastera of Center Ossipee. "I felt fortunate to be alive."

The event took place at Hanover High School. The first "Welcome Home" event was held in Concord in 2013.
