Verizon confirms data of 6 million users leaked online

Verizon confirmed that personal data of 6 millions customers had been leaked online, according to CNN.

The security issue led to the release of phone numbers, names and some PIN codes online. This error allegedly was caused by a misconfigured security setting on a cloud server due to "human error," CNN said.

Verizon told CNN Tech that no loss or theft of customer information occurred.

Chris Vickery, a researcher at UpGuard, alerted Verizon of the leak on June 13 after discovering it. The security hole was closed on June 22, CNN reported.
