Vandalism spree in Deerfield ends in three arrests

DEERFIELD — A vandalism spree in Deerfield has led to the arrest of three Raymond teenagers charged with smashing mailboxes, breaking windows and slashing car tires.

Deerfield police Chief Gary Duquette told the Union Leader that his department is still assessing the damage, which so far includes areas along Church Street, Griffin Road, Nottingham Road and Harvey Road. The homes appear to have been chosen at random.

Police arrested Austin Savary, 19; Austin Bonanno, 19; and a 17-year-old juvenile, charging them with felony criminal mischief, drug possession and alcohol-related charges.

Police say a homeowner on Church Street who woke early Wednesday morning after hearing a loud bang called 911. When an officer responded, he saw several mailboxes destroyed on the side of the road. A short time later, a second call came in from a homeowner along Griffin Road who also heard a loud bang.

Epsom and Northwood patrol officers were asked to assist in setting up a perimeter around the area, but police located the youths on Griffin Road. Police say Savary was seen holding a crowbar over his head near some property that had just been destroyed.
