Vandal spray paints Nazi surrounded by heart, breaks window at NHGOP headquarters
CONCORD — The Republican headquarters in Concord was vandalized sometime overnight Wednesday.
The Graffiti is on the lower back side of the building. A vandal spray painted the word "Nazis" inside of a heart all in black and threw rocks through a back window, an act police believe happened between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday when members of the Concord GOP reported the incident. Concord police is investigating the case but does not yet have any suspects.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Concord police at 603-225-8600.
NHGOP Senior Adviser Patrick Hynes said the vandalism contradicts the state party's direction.
"The New Hampshire Republican State Committee headquarters was vandalized last night by fringe, marginal political elements," Hynes said. "The fact is three-quarters of Granite Staters say New Hampshire is heading in the right direction under Republican policies. We expect Sens. Shaheen and Hassan and Reps. Kuster and Shea-Porter to denounce these attacks today."
Sen. Maggie Hassan has already called the act "disgusting."
NH Democratic Chair Ray Buckley issued a statement condemning the act, "Vandalism is unacceptable. It's inexcusable and it's wrong. The New Hampshire Democratic Party wholly condemns this criminal action and hopes the perpetrator is held accountable. There is no place for that in our politics."
Gov. Chris Sununu also commented on the incident saying, “It is certainly disturbing and very sad to see vandalism with such hateful rhetoric. There is no place for that in our politics or society.”
This is not the first time that the GOP building in Concord has been the target of vandalism.
According to the Union Leader, in October of 2013, the building was tagged with the phrase "WWJD HEALTHCARE FOR EVERYONE."
Evidence of that incident can still be seen under a thin layer of paint on the back of the building.
Work has begun to clean the new vandalism off of the back side of the building.
