Van crashes, bursts into flames on I-93 south in Manchester, 2 injured

MANCHESTER - Two people were injured after their van crashed and burst into flames, shutting down the right lane of Interstate 93 southbound for about 90 minutes on Tuesday morning.

Police say Jessica Scales, 28, of Derry, lost control of her Ford van around 10:30 a.m. and veered off the right side of the road, hitting the sound barrier. Her passenger, Gary Huber, 40, of Haverhill, Mass., was not wearing a seatbelt and was partially ejected out the front windshield. The van then caught fire, becoming fully engulfed.

Firefighters successfully extinguished the blaze and the two were taken to Elliot Hospital for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. Scales was wearing a seat belt and received only minor injuries, police said.

As officers shut down the right lane, they observed a driver taking cell phone pictures of the burned vehicle as he drove by. Allen Buco, 26, of Manchester was charged with using a mobile device while driving. Police also discovered Buco was wanted by the Raymond police.
