USDA recalls more than 1,000 pounds of Wegmans chicken
The USDA is recalling 1,125 pounds of chicken because the company, Wegmans changed its production schedule outside the approved production cycle and did not get the meat inspected.
The chicken was produced on Jan. 3. A federal inspector found the change during a review of Wegmans' records. The USDA has issued a Class 1 recall, which is defined as "This is a health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death," even though no one has reported ill effects from the chicken.
The following products have been recalled
- Approximately 1 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing "Wegmans Italian Flavored Chicken Breast Cutlet" with a use-by date of Jan. 24 2016.
- Approximately 1 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing "Wegmans Brown Sugar Barbecue Seasoned Chicken Breast Cutlet" with a use-by date of Jan. 15.
- 3 pound vacuum-sealed packages containing "Wegmans Garlic & Fennel Whole Chicken Roaster" with a use-by date of Jan. 13.
- 1-pound vacuum-sealed packages containing "Wokery Sherry Chicken 27482" with use-by date of Jan. 13.
The USDA encourages people not to eat the chicken, but return it to the vendor for a full refund.
