NEW YORK (AP) U.S. stock indexes are creeping higher in midday trading following a strong performance last week.

The gains on Monday are broad but slight. Eight of 10 sectors in the Standard & Poor's 500 index rose.

The Dow Jones industrial average edged up 34 points, or 0.2 percent, to 18,162 as of 11:45 a.m. Eastern time.

The S&P 500 gained one point, or 0.1 percent, to 2,109. The index jumped 2.7 percent last week, its biggest rise since early February.

The Nasdaq composite slipped seven points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,019 at midday Monday. The index is within 29 points of its all-time high, reached during the dot-com bubble.

Bond prices were steady. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note traded at 1.93 percent, which was its level late Friday.
