UPDATE: Woman who saw fatal Weare crash says tree branch hit 'really hard'

WEARE - The driver of pick-up truck that was struck by a tree on Route 114 near John Stark Regional High School was killed in the crash.

Police said they are not identifying the victim until the family is notified. The N.H. Medical Examiner was called to the scene.

The tree came down in high winds around 2:40 p.m. in front of the high school. No student, faculty or staff member of the John Stark Regional High School was involved, police said.

Sherry McGuire was a few cars behind the truck when the accident happened.

"The tree branch was behind the truck, but you could see that the truck was hit by the branch really hard," she said. "I had to call the school and tell them there was an accident so they could stop the kids from coming out because it was pretty bad."

The dismissal of students at the school was delayed. Police said all the schools in Weare were notified and dismissal was postponed as a detour route was planned. Students were subsequently released and sent home via that detour route.
