UPDATE: Stratham Tire owner says 'there's no words' after Friday's massive fire in Concord
CONCORD — When the fire first broke at Stratham Tire in Concord on Friday morning, people at the scene said they could see the dark black smoke for miles.
“I was coming down the Airport Road here and I was like ‘wow something is on fire,'" the store manager at Stratham Tire, Randy McClintock said. "I get closer to see that it was my building. There’s no words for it, you kind of just have to stand there and look at it."
The fire was impressive, in that it took firefighters two hours to get it under control. Rubber tires accelerated the flames.
“The flames got bigger and bigger through the roof and hearing explosions,” Angie Schonartho said. She and her husband were doing laundry when the flames first broke out snapping pictures of the flames before fire trucks even arrived. “All of a sudden it got black and I mean the smoke was just pouring out the side.”
The plan is to rebuild the store and have the current employees work at other store locations.
“It’s heartbreaking at the same time," Jaymee Guinuard of Concord said. "I think they've only been able to pull out four tires.”
Fire crews from several towns were called to the scene and spent half of Friday investigating the cause.
