UPDATE: Stoddard firefighter arrested in connection with massive 2-day forest fire


STODDARD — Police arrested a firefighter in connection with the massive two-day forest fire in Stoddard after launching an arson investigation.

David Plante, 31 of Stoddard, was taken into custody Friday evening by police. Plante has been charged with one count of arson - a felony. Police said additional charges may be forthcoming.

As an active member of the Stoddard Fire Department, Plante finished his firefighter training in 2014. Police said that with no further evidence, they do not believe that there are any other suspects involved.

The massive fire that started Thursday night and burned right through until Friday, and has been 100 percent contained where crews said they will be working through the weekend to put out any additional hot spots.

Plante is being held without bail, pending his arraignment scheduled for Monday afternoon.
