PORTSMOUTH — There’s a controversy at Portsmouth High School after a teacher is out of the classroom because of complaints from parents over a dance performance to explicit music.
Geometry teacher Kara Kelley dressed as Donald Trump for Halloween. A student taped her in class dancing to a rap song with language such as the “n” word. It's called “F--- Donald Trump” and has more than ten million views on YouTube.
“She had a student turn it on and she just happened to start dancing along with the music,” said Nicholas Hudson, a Portsmouth High School junior.
Some parents complained and the geometry teacher was reportedly suspended for a week.
“Maybe in a different situation like at someone's home but in a learning environment, I don't think that was really appropriate,” added Hudson.
We tried to talk to school administrators Tuesday but were kicked off the property.
The Portsmouth School Superintendent, Stephen Zadravec issued a statement saying: “There is no place for offensive language in our school community nor is it our practice in schools to support or discredit political candidates.”
“Everyone listens to music like that especially students. It's harsh but that's the culture,” Alex Taveres told us when he got out of school. The Portsmouth High School sophomore also told us he doesn't think Kelley should be fired over the incident.
NH1 News tried to get the teacher’s side of the story, but when we went to her house, the woman who answered the door said she was formerly married to Kelley but the teacher no longer lives there.
