UPDATE: Pennsylvania Gov. responds to Merrimack Police call for arrest of famed groundhog Punxsutawney Phil

So we've come to this. The harsh winter has finally forced police into action.

The Merrimack Police are calling for the arrest of the notorious fiend responsible for the continued winter storms.

That fiend - of course - is Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog who predicted six more weeks of winter last week.

But be careful, the police warn. Punxsutawney Phil is to be considered "armed and dangerous."

Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has responded to Merrimack's call for Punxsutawney Phil's arrest in an article on patch.com.

"We will do what is necessary to protect our beloved weather-predicting groundhog. The Merrimack Police Department should drop their cold-hearted plan to arrest Phil," Wolf said in the article.

Wolf called Punxsutawney Phil an American legend and a Pennsylvania hero, and he called for Gov. Maggie Hassan to intervene.

Stay tuned as the feud continues.
