UPDATE: NH AG says man shot by police after pursuit, confrontation on I-89 in Hopkinton

HOPKINTON — The Attorney General's office is investigating after a police officer shot a man during a confrontation on Interstate 89 on Friday.
Around 7 p.m. A New Hampshire State Police trooper spotted a car reported stolen from Vermont. The officer pursued the car, which eventually stopped on the highway in Hopkinton near Exit 7.
A confrontation broke out among the male driver and several police officers at the scene, ending with the driver being shot.
Emergency crews treated the driver at the scene before taking him to a hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.
The investigation shut down the roadway between Exits 7 and 6 southbound for several hours. It caused major traffic backups on the roadway.
During that time a 4-door sedan with Vermont license plates was stopped in the middle of the highway in front of the cruisers with the driver's side door ajar.
The Attorney General's office did not say if the officer who fired the shot is a State Police trooper or is from another police agency. Police cruisers from several towns were on scene during the investigation.
No police officers were injured during the incident.
