UPDATE: New Salem cruiser struck, damaged in 2-state chase involving Atkinson teen

SALEM - One of two new police cruisers introduced to the community Tuesday was damaged just hours later when an Atkinson teen allegedly struck it with a pick-up truck before leading officers on a two-state, high-speed chase.

Jeremiah Remy, 19, of Atkinson is expected to be arraigned in Lawrence District Court this morning, before facing four counts of second-degree assault in Salem for running his car at officers and the cruisers when they tried to arrest him on a probation violation warrant Tuesday night. Police said officers had to jump out of the way as Remy drove toward them in the La Quinta Inn parking lot. Remy then allegedly fled at high-speeds on Interstate 93 northbound to Londonderry and then southbound into Massachusetts with police in pursuit. He was eventually arrested in Lowell at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Salem Police posted a picture of one of the department's two new cruisers on its Facebook Page Tuesday.
