UPDATE: Neighbors recall seeing arson suspect in Franklin fire acting 'strangely'
FRANKLIN - A late night fire in Franklin has condemned a multi-family home.
The cause of the fire still under investigation, but one woman who lived in the building was in court this morning after she was arrested in connection to the suspicious fire.
Neighbors watched in fear as the fire raged Wednesday night.
In a video taken of the scene, you can hear the frame of the home crackling under pressure and the neighbors screaming.
Tammy Strother witnessed the terrifying scene from her front lawn.
“I came out of my house and all I saw were flames,” Strother said.
Other neighbors watched as other people ran in rushing to get the family of four out.
Neighbors said they watched as people from the neighborhood ran in rushing to get the family of four out. Peggy Dolbaere said the image plays over and over in her mind.
Dolbaere's son is seen on video running to the door of the burning home.
“My son ran in there," she said. "He went over to the door like a flash. He said there’s kids in there, and we’ve seen them there before."
Investigators are still attempting to determine the cause, but arrested one of the building’s tenants, Amber Cowen.
The building’s owner was unwilling to discuss her relationship with the tenant but neighbors said it was taking a turn for the worst.
“The only thing I know is that she was being evicted,” said Strother who knew Cowen.
Cowen is known to police but not for any arson instances. Neighbors also said she has a long history with substance abuse and mental health issues.
Donnie Gray described seeing Cowen acting strangely earlier in the day.
“I saw her coming down the street with a gas can," he said. "After she set the place on fire, she sat on the curb and watched it burn."
