UPDATE: Multi-car crash on I-89 in Sutton leads to charges against one driver
SUTTON - Several people were injured Saturday morning and one man was charged with reckless driving in a multi-car accident on Interstate 89 that temporarily closed the northbound side of the highway and backed up traffic for miles.
State police say Michael Plaisted, 33, of Laconia, was driving a 2010 Kia Forte that ended up on its roof. Police say Plaisted was in the high speed lane and driving at a high rate of speed when another car attempted to move into the left lane and the two vehicles sideswiped each other, sending the Kia into the guardrail. The collision sent the Kia up into the air and into a third car before coming to a stop on its roof.
As police were responding to the accident shortly after 9 a.m., a second three-vehicle crash occurred south of the first incident, police said.
Sutton firefighters said one woman was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center as a result of the first crash.
The collision is still under investigation. Witnesses are asked to call Trooper Michael Catalfamo at 603-223-8496.
