UPDATE: Manchester man charged in stabbing after being identified as 'person of interest'
MANCHESTER - A man taken into custody as a "person of interest" in a Tuesday night stabbing has now been charged in connection with the assault.
Police arrested Derek Sedita, 32, near his home on Massabesic Street yesterday afternoon on an unrelated warrant. Thursday, he was charged with first-degree assault and attempted first-degree assault.
He is accused of stabbing another man with a knife on Tuesday night. At some point in the confrontation, Sedita allegedly fired a round from a shotgun. Fortunately, the victim was not hit by the shotgun blast.
The victim, a 29-year-old from Auburn, was treated at Elliott Hospital for a non-life threatening stab wound to his neck.
Sedita was initially arrested on a prior warrant and charged with violating his bail conditions and possession of a controlled drug after police say they found him with suboxone and Ambien.
Sedita is scheduled to appear on Sept. 10 in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on both the assault and drug charges.
