UPDATE: Man arrested following barricade situation in Laconia, woman escaped by window

LACONIA — Laconia Police received a report of a woman being held against her will at 223 Weirs Blvd at about 8 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Police say the woman is known to the suspect and he had assaulted her several times overnight.

James Cunningham was taken into custody around 10:10 a.m. Police say there was a brief struggle before his arrest.

Police say Cunningham threatened to kill the woman. He also hit her over the head with a pool cue and broke it.

Cunningham was charged with domestic violence simple assault, a misdemeanor, felony second degree assault, felony domestic violence, resisting arrest, and criminal threatening.

Cunningham is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Laconia District Court.

Three homes in the area were immediately evacuated.
