UPDATE: Knife-wielding suspect may be linked to two Manchester robberies
MANCHESTER - A man arrested on Sunday morning may have been involved in not just one, but two, armed robberies in the city, according to police.
Police say they arrived at the Hess Station at 805 Massabesic St. for a reported robbery around 8:30 a.m. A witness reported seeing the suspect heading west on Hayward Street in the area of Porter Street.
The man fled when police approached, and police say he tried to throw a knife he was carrying onto the roof of a nearby residence. Officers recovered the knife after the suspect was apprehended, along with a pack of cigarettes he allegedly stole during the robbery.
Mangok Mashut, 24, was charged with armed robbery, resisting arrest and falsifying physical evidence. Police say he also had a warrant out for his arrest for violation of a protective order.
Mashut also matched the description of a man who used a knife to demand money at the 7-Eleven at Bridge and Maple street earlier that morning. Police say detectives are currently looking into a possible link between the two crimes.
